French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his model/actress wife Carla Bruni have named their new baby girl Giulia.
Bruni made the announcement on Thursday (20Oct11) as part of a thank you tweet to fans.
She wrote, “I’m deeply touched by all your messages since the birth of our little Giulia. In this happy time, my husband and I would like to thank those of you who showed us so much kindness.”
The little girl was born in Paris on Wednesday night (19Oct11). She’s the first child for the couple, who wed in 2008.
The French leader has three kids from his two previous marriages, while Italian beauty Bruni is mother to 10-year-old Aurelian.

Bette Midler recently accused pop superstar Lady Gaga of copying her ‘mermaid’ routine, but the veteran entertainer now claims she’d like to sell her old costumes to the ‘Born This Way’ singer. The 65-year-old is auctioning a selection of her most iconic outfits, and insists Gaga can “have what she wants”.
Back in July, she accused Gaga of stealing her famous ‘mermaid-in-a-wheelchair’ routine during a performance in Australia. She told Twitter followers the 25-year-old could keep her “meat dress” but that ‘the mermaid’ was hers. However, speaking to the Associated Press ahead of the auction next month, Bette said, “I think she (Gaga) should go for a real wheelchair and a real fishtail because these are really beautiful. They are decorated and hand-beaded”. The singer insisted she would be “thrilled” if Gaga bought items from the collection, saying, “I hope she buys at least a little bit. It would be fun. There are so many wonderful ideas and so much of it. So much of it is so funny.If she is interested, she can have whatever she wants because she is a very talented girl and I love her a lot”. The outfits are set to go under the hammer at Julien’s Auctions in California on 12th November 2011. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the singer’s charity, the New York Restoration Project.
Midler is currently shooting the 2012 comedy movie ‘Parental Guidance’ with veteran actor Billy Crystal. The film focuses on a grandfather who resorts to old school parenting techniques while taking care of his three grandchildren.
Goss Asked Winehouse’s Dad To Perform At London Show In Her Memory

Singer Matt Goss asked Amy Winehouse’s father to perform at his upcoming London concert after learning he’d pulled out of a show in the U.S. following his daughter’s death in July (11).
Mitch Winehouse had just landed in America when he heard the awful news that the Rehab singer had been found dead in her London home, and he immediately jetted back to Britain.
Goss was devastated to hear about the singer’s passing – and he reached out to Mitch to offer him the support slot at his Royal Albert Hall show on Friday (21Oct11).
He tells DigitalSpy.com, “When I heard about Amy passing away, I was surprised by how moved I was. I was very, very saddened because I was so moved by her records; especially the Back to Black record, which is such an amazing record – so commercial, yet so credible. A hard combination.
“She just had a way with words and (she was) so genuine; I believed everything she sang. When I heard about it, I was obviously very, very sad. But then I heard about Mitch’s story; he was on his way to do a show in New York and he had to come back (to London).
“My reason for calling him is just one singer to another singer. I’m not an elitist person. I just think we’re all in the same business. I want him to have an amazing night… Mitch is going to play (the) Royal Albert Hall on Friday (and) I’m going to be in the wings, watching his set.
“I’m going to get one hell of a kick out of seeing him doing his thing. He’s a really good singer, and (he has) got lots of style. He’s got every right to have the time of his life up there on Friday night. I hope he has the time of his life in honour of his beautiful daughter.”
So when a shark pup with albino skin and a single eye was found by fishermen in Mexico, and photographs were beamed across the world, many dismissed the strange creature as a hoax.
But after examination by a Mexican biologist, the shark was declared real.
It was removed from the womb of its mother, an endangered dusky shark, which was caught in the Gulf of California.
Mexican biologist Felipe Galvan-Magana diagnosed the fish with cyclopia, a rare defect that causes the development of only one eye.
It has also drawn comparisons with a famous celluloid monster — green, grinning Mike from Monsters, Inc.
The one-eyed shark has achieved cult status since Pisces Fleet Sportfishing published pictures of it in July, giving rise to rumours of Photoshopping or other hoaxes.
Shark expert Felipe Galvan Magana, of Mexico’s Centro Interdisciplinario de Ciencias del Mar, said: ‘This is extremely rare. As far as I know, less than 50 examples of an abnormality like this have been recorded.’
The shark’s condition is known as cyclopia, and is a rare congenital disorder characterised by the failure of the front portion of the brain to properly divide the orbits of the eye into two cavities.
Cyclopia occurs within the spectrum of brain and face defects known as holoprosencephaly, which in severe cases can result in miscarriage or stillbirth.
In 2005 a kitten born with only one eye and no nose caused a similar online stir.
The feline, one of two in a litter, became known as Cy (short for Cyclops) and died within a day.
Jennifer Grey To Stand In For Goodman On Dance Show
Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey is set to bring her waltzing expertise to British TV contest Strictly Come Dancing by joining the judging panel for one week only.
The actress, who played Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman alongside Patrick Swayze in the 1987 blockbuster, will stand in for panellist Len Goodman next month when he takes a week off.
And Grey is qualified to dish out advice to the celebrity contestants – she won the American version of the show, Dancing With The Stars, in 2010.
Grey says, “I’m delighted to be involved and can’t wait to see what the contestants have got.
“I so look forward to making the pilgrimage to the birthplace of the greatest dance show – the mecca of spray tans and tangos – and to sit in for the great and persnickety Len Goodman.”
MC Hammer unveils Google search engine rival WireDoo

MC Hammer has announced WireDoo, a new search engine focused on “deep search” and relational topics.
Most search engines are built on links and keywords, explained Hammer at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco. Google and other search engines aren’t as strong at connecting keywords to related topics — something he called relationship search.
Hammer explained a search for a car is not just about the car, but about the model, the mileage, the specs and even the postcode (you likely want to buy from a local dealer). A search for a home is related to the surrounding community, schools, neighbourhood condition and other related concerns.
“It’s about relationships beyond just the keywords,” Hammer said on stage.
To address this issue, Hammer launched WireDoo, with the tagline is “Search once and see what’s related”. The rapper and entrepreneur didn’t reveal much more about the search engine, beyond that it can bring up related topics to a search query in multiple verticals, including finance.
It’s important to note that Google Search does take into account keyword relationships, but Hammer believes that the search engine that his team has built — a project more than two years in the making — will prove to be more useful due to its focus on relational search.

Carla Bruni, France’s first lady, has given birth to a baby girl at the La Muette private clinic in Paris. Although the presidential couple are yet to comment, the girl is rumoured to be named ‘Dahlia’, according to the UK’s Independent newspaper.
The baby, who has been expected for a fortnight, was born around 7.30pm on Wednesday evening (19th September 2011) – President Nicolas Sarkozy immediately flew back from Germany where he was in urgent talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel about saving the euro. He had visited his 43-year-old wife for around half-an-hour earlier this week, but was forced to leave for the crisis talks. The child, the first to be born to a serving French president, is the second for Bruni – she has a son from an earlier relationship. Sarkozy is already a parent to three boys from his two previous marriages. According Afp, the first lady had not known the baby’s sex and during a pre-recorded interview for French television, due to air on Thursday (20th October 2011), she said, “We’ve arranged for it to be a big surprise. Obviously, a nice surprise”. News of Bruni’s pregnancy was kept safely under wraps for several months, but the couple were forced to confirm the news after intense media speculation.
A singer-songwriter, actress and former model, Bruni made a recent cameo appearance in Woody Allen’s Parisian romantic-comedy ‘Midnight in Paris’.
